Essay about The Rising Cost of Fossil Fuels - 1576 Words
Currently, Americans are becoming more aware of the changes to the environment that have been taken place over the past 200 years. Storms are becoming stronger, seasons are being coming harder to compare in the similarities of the past and the many aspects of different eco-structures are starting to die off with direct relations from use of burning fossil fuels. Americans are also looking for new ways to save move. Over the past 30 years, rising cost of fuel as forced many people to reconsider current and future financial plans. What type of vehicle to drive, possible carpooling plans, even acceptance of new jobs based on the logistics of their current home and as well as the finding of a new home based on current employment. With theseâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Two highly competing possible replacement are solar energy for consumer household use Red (2012) and hydrogen fuel cells for automotive applications Efficient Mileage (2009). These two are held high due to the fact of its energy input vs output and its effect on the environment. Both offer several different methods of energy farming and as well as performance its usage. When we take a look at fossil fuels, there are many other drawbacks to its usage other than the fact it is a depleting substance, there are also the environmental damages that result from the consumption of fossil fuels. One byproduct of burning fossil fuels is the release of efficient gasses that creates the greenhouse effect. In Bernard L Cohenââ¬â¢s book â⬠The Nuclear Energy Optionâ⬠The greenhouse effect is caused by molecules in the earthââ¬â¢s atmosphere absorbing and reemitting infrared radiation. The more fuel burned by fossil fuels causes more carbon dioxide (CO2) to be released into the atmosphere which in turn allows for more radiation to be absorbed and redirected back towards the earth. These changes to temperature cause our ice caps to melt, ocean temperatures to rise and decreased agricultural output to be diminished. The outcome of these results affects the countries people directly. According to Cohen (2012), when the ice capsShow MoreRelatedSolar : An Alternative Energy Source868 Words à |à 4 Pagesenergy source for homeowners and businesses seeking a cost-effective solution to rising energy bills. Why Choose an Alternative Energy Source People have relied on the power of fossil fuels for hundreds of years. Fossil fuels are used to make coal, oil and gas that powers cars, factories and homes. These fuels are burned to meet the needs of most of the energy consumption throughout the world. When considering the popularity of fossil fuels, many wonder why people should consider an alternativeRead MoreAlternative Energy Can Effectively Replace Fossil Fuels1227 Words à |à 5 Pages Alternative Energy Can Effectively Replace Fossil Fuels In the U.S. alone, carbon dioxide emission levels have risen thirty percent since 2005. If the emissions continue to rise at this pace, the temperature of the Earth may rise by at most, thirteen degrees. Temperatures rising to that height could cause chaos across the world. With more and more people burning fossil fuels every day, this unfortunate future is likely to occur. Fortunately, using pollution free alternative energy could alterRead MoreEssay on Environmental Impact of Fossil Fuels518 Words à |à 3 PagesEnvironmental Impact of Fossil Fuels Fossil fuels cause pollution, smog, and the greenhouse effect. Fossil fuels really do negatively impact our environment, especially when it comes to global warming, Although there is controversy over whether or not fossil fuels are causing the planet to warm, or whether it is warming naturally, there is significant research that supports the former hypothesis. When fossil fuels are burned, they emit different levels of carbonRead MoreThe Energy Of Solar Energy1462 Words à |à 6 Pagesneeds. The barrier to greater use of the solar resource is its high cost relative to the cost of fossil fuels, although the disparity will decrease with the rising prices of fossil fuels and the rising costs of mitigating their impact on the environment and climate.â⬠Higher use of alternative fuels, such as solar power, should be not only better embraced but required by legislation in order to avoid the depletion of fossil fuels that would result in not having the means by which to power our worldRead MoreThe Effects Of Global Warming On Earth882 Words à |à 4 Pagestemperature of earth atmosphere. I am of the firm belief that a person without a defining vision for oneself is only as good as that someone living without a sense of direction and meaning in oneââ¬â¢s life. This is because I find it needless to contend that personal vision is an essential ingredient to live a sensible life. Vision, if I may argue, is the eternal fount from where all our actions flow, if not from where all our motives take cue. In ways more than one, I am applying at the University of Alaska Anchorage moved by the controlling motive to pursue a vision which I have long believed to be a noble vocation which my heart truly beats for ââ¬â i.e., to become a successful pilot for the commercial industry, by capitalizing on the learning that I can gain from a Bachelorââ¬â¢s Degree in International Studies. And believe that I can become successful in my chosen field if I am able to pour a fair amount of effort in setting my academic and professional goals right at the onset. Of paramount importance to my vision is to finish a Bachelorââ¬â¢s Degree in International Studies. Since the nature of my prospective profession entails immersing myself into the vastly diverse cultures of the world, I believe that a Degree in International Studies is, essentially, of no little importance to my personal and professional journey. At the very least, a degree in International Studies can surely help me appreciate the many different facets of human dynamics, projected, as it were, onto the larger sphere on international arena. And by allowing me to obtain a Degree in International Studies, I believe that the University can become instrumental in helping me appreciate my profession not only as a career, but also ââ¬â nay, even more so ââ¬â an avenue for greater appreciation of, and respect for world cultures. Secondly, I have reasons to think that my past experiences have been largely contributory to my decision to take up International Studies. Having been raised into a Bush Alaskan environment, where diversity ââ¬â more than anything else ââ¬â thrived, in addition to having been given a rare opportunity to briefly pursue scholastic training in Australia, as well having been into not a few States and world countries during my childhood and early adulthood years, I believe that I have a lot of experiences that need dutiful interpretation under the lenses of academic sciences. This is where, I can only surmise, the University steps in. For one, I am more than certain that the University can help me ââ¬â through the courses slated in its International Studies Degree ââ¬â to put into wise perspectives the lessons that I have already gained from my otherwise rich life experiences. The Rise of the Mega-Bookstore free essay sample
An analysis of the relationship between mega-bookstores and independent bookstores. The paper looks at the effect that the phenomenon of the mega-bookstore has on smaller independent bookstores. It goes on to explain its claim that the mega-bookstore is responsible for limiting the free circulation of ideas and knowledge, and it explores the relationship between authors and publishers with respect to mega-bookstores. It ends off with proposals for the preservation of independent bookstores. But what such an assessment of the decline of the independent bookstore fails to take into account is at least two essential factors. The first of these and this is beyond the scope of this current paper but at least bears mentioning here is that the idea that a perfectly unregulated free market is not necessarily a virtue; one of the reasons that humans have constituted institutions of governance among themselves may well be that so that market forces can be constrained.
